Advertising and Affiliate Disclosure

How FenceCalc pays for itself

FenceCalc is free to use, with no account and no paywall. Two things cover the cost of building, hosting and maintaining it:

Display advertising. Advertisements appear in fixed slots between sections of a page. Each slot reserves its space before an ad loads, so the page does not jump around while you read or while you type into a calculator.

Affiliate links. Some outbound links to retailers and tool suppliers are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a commission. The price you pay is the same either way.

Advertisers do not write our content

Advertising is sold by third-party networks and served automatically. That has a direct consequence worth stating plainly:

  • No advertiser sees our content before it is published, and none has approval over it.
  • No advertiser can buy a better position in a guide, a recommendation or a fence-style comparison.
  • Estimates, quantities and price ranges are produced by the calculator's own method, not by a sponsor's preference.
  • Sponsored or paid placements, if we ever run them, will be labeled as such and kept out of the calculators.

If an ad on this site is broken, misleading or unwanted, send us the page and what you saw through the contact page and we will report it to the network.

Affiliate disclosure

In line with US Federal Trade Commission guidance on endorsements and testimonials: assume that any link to a retailer, a tool supplier or a service is an affiliate link unless it points to a page on this site or to a reference source such as a building department or code library. We earn a commission on qualifying purchases made through those links.

Commissions never change:

  • The quantities a tool returns.
  • The price ranges we publish.
  • Which fence styles we recommend for a situation.
  • Whether we say a material is a poor choice for your climate.

We recommend what the estimating data and the installation realities support, and we say so when a cheaper product is the better answer.

Advertising cookies and personalization

Advertising partners may use cookies or device identifiers to serve and measure ads, including personalized advertising. That is explained, with opt-out links, on our cookie policy page. You can keep every tool on this site working with those cookies declined.

How to complain about an ad

Ads are served by third-party networks, so we cannot remove a specific ad or control which advertiser wins an auction. What we can do is pass a report to the network, which is the fastest route to getting a bad ad blocked. Send the page address and a note about what the ad said or did, and we will act on it.

Effective October 2026.
