FenceCalc produces estimates. They are built from typical material quantities and national-average prices. They are not a bid, not a contract price, and not a guarantee that any supplier, contractor or building department will agree with them.

Check local rules before you dig or build

Fence height limits, setback distances, pool barrier requirements, material restrictions in fire zones, and permit thresholds all vary by city, county and state, and often further by homeowners association. Nothing on this site replaces the rules that apply where you live.

• Confirm the height, setback and permit requirements with your local building department or planning office.
• Check your HOA covenants and any recorded easements, including utility easements.
• Call 811 (or your national one-call service) before digging. Buried utilities are not visible from the surface, and hitting one is dangerous and expensive.
• Check property lines before building. A survey is cheaper than moving a fence.

Prices move, and regions differ

Material prices change with the market, the season and the retailer. Labor rates vary widely by region. Sales tax, delivery, disposal fees and minimum charges are not included in our estimates or guides. Treat every figure here as a starting point that you confirm locally before you buy.

Using this site does not create a professional relationship with FenceCalc, and nothing here is legal, engineering, structural or construction advice for your specific site. Conditions that a tool cannot see — slope, soil, rock, drainage, frost depth, wind exposure, existing structures — affect what a fence needs.
